Virginia Veneer & Building Stone

The following description is common for each stone unless otherwise noted.

Thickness: 1″ — 2″ (Thin) Veneer [Boulder Builder N/A]
3″ — 5″ (Thick) Building Stone

Shape & Size: Natural irregular, Saucer to Large Platter

Availability: Plentiful, palletized inventory (Primarily 1 ton pallet) ready for shipment or pick up from our STORE location in Bristol, VA. Other shipping options include flat bed semi, pick-up truck, or delivering locally (6 ton max) — direct from nature to your site.

Purpose

Landscape: edging, dry stacked borders, low free-standing walls, around drain culvert openings, garden accents, water features, etc.

Building: veneer home and building facades, foundations, retaining walls, fireplaces, etc.

Lay using Full-face method or Stacked method

We harvest a variety of stones from our own operations in Southwest Virginia. The Five main varieties are named for easy reference:

Tumbling Creek

Tumbling Creek Sandstone is a Sandstone Quartzite harvested from our quarry in Tumbling Creek, Virginia.

Color varies from orange, rust, and few blacks.

Core color is a buff/cream color.

Calico

Calico is a Sandstone Quartzite harvested from the beautiful Clinch Mountains. Much like the Weathered Ridge, Calico also has a weathered surface. Our most popular veneer stone!

Colors vary from light grey, few whites, browns, reds, tans, pinks, deep purples, and some blacks. Often has moss and lichen clinging to the outer surface.

Core color varies from grey, white, red, and brown.

Weathered Ridge

Weathered Ridge is a Sandstone Quartzite that has fallen from the cliffs of Brumley Gap and its surface has obtained a weathered appearance.

Color varies from grey, black, rust, deep purple, and brown.

Core color varies from red, brown, and grey.

Laurel Bed

Laurel Bed is a Sandstone Quartzite harvested from the cliffs of Saltville, Virginia.

Color varies from olive green, tan, and rust.​

Core color is blue, blue/green, and some tans.

Boulder Builders

(Only available in 3″-5″ Building Stone)

Boulder Builders is a Sandstone Quartzite hidden deep in the mountains of Saltville, Virginia. It has a bumpy like weathered surface. Our most popular building stone!

Color ranges from grey, red, brown, pink, red, tan, rust, and purples. Usually covered in moss and lichen.

Core colors range from white, brown, tan, and red.
